Discover 6km full of gems

The Kordaal walking route in Nokere ticks all the boxes. And we’re pretty sure that - when you get to the end of that 6 km - you’ll say that the walk exceeded your expectations!
Nokereberg: where Lower Belgium meets Central Belgium
The Kordaal walking route runs directly over the Nokereberg, a steep cobblestone lane and the division between Lower and Central Belgium. But division sounds so strict; we prefer to call it a meeting place.
The Nokereberg is also a meeting place for cycling enthusiasts. This is one of the cobbled sections that Tour of Flanders fans eagerly await. During this walk, you’ll literally step in the footsteps of many cycling legends. Or should we say in the tracks of the icons of the race?
A logical passage: Kordaal forest
As you might have guessed, the Kordaal route passes through the Kordaal Forest. This 3 ha nature reserve along Kordaalbeek is a treasure trove for birdwatchers.
Truly, this stretch of nature is a green oasis full of moisture-loving plants that attract many birds. It’s a great place for birds and walkers alike!
A dose of grandeur: two castles
One castle quickly provides the necessary pomp and circumstance. But two castles in one go really heightens the effect. Come and discover the two most beautiful castles in the region on your Kordaal walk. Sadly, the castles cannot be visited, but they are a very nice bonus to behold. You'll first pass by Casier Castle, also called Nokere Castle. This classical water castle from 1727 is a listed building. It'll let you to enjoy beautiful gardens with several ponds.
The Ruffo de Bonneval Castle, also a listed building, is just a little further away. This castle is known as the ‘New castle’ because it developed from the hunting pavilion that was part of the forest of Casier Castle.
A cold beer and a bag of crisps? Or creative suggestions?
All that walking makes you hungry! Luckily, the village has a few places where you can go for a drink and a snack. In Het Landhuys, for example, Dominiek and Annelies serve fresh creative suggestions in keeping with the season in a stylish setting.
Would you rather have a beer and a bag of crisps? They will wait on you hand and foot at Café Handelshuis! And at Brasserie Tanderus you can dine in the unique setting of an old mill.
Come and have a taste of the Flemish Ardennes
Who said that walking has to be boring? We challenge you to come and discover the Kordaal walking route! Immerse yourself in one fell swoop in the most beautiful buildings, paths, churches, castles and cafés of this lively region.
